having just devoured a scummy chicken and asparagus salad (accompanied by a crisp, cold glass of sauvignon blanc obviously) i think i can say with some confidence that there are very few things in this world that are more delicious than british asparagus in season. it is one of the few foods that i am fastidious about only eating if it is locally grown and in season and it got me thinking about whether this is why i enjoy it so much. is it the ten months or so of complete abstinence that makes it taste even better than remembered? this must be be a huge factor so i am going to make a concerted effort to eat more seasonal, local food and resist putting imported, out of season goods in my shopping trolley.
